What a small business website costs in 2026

2026 website prices from marketplaces, freelancers and agencies in Lithuania, the UK and the US, what drives cost and how to compare quotes.

Published prices for a small business website range from about €300 on a Lithuanian marketplace to $15,000–40,000 for a custom site from a US agency. The gap comes down to who builds the site, how much is made from scratch and what the price includes. Below are the ranges we found, each linked to its source.

Price ranges by type of seller

Each source uses its own currency and measures something slightly different, so read the first column closely.

Shops have their own ranges.

Several of these are sellers’ own figures. Fiverr and Storetasker sell freelance work, Sayenko Design is one Seattle agency and DMNT is a Kaunas marketing agency.

Kodexa’s range is one studio’s price list. Whito describes itself as an independent UK research publisher and dates its prices to Q1 2026.

What drives cost

Rates come first. Whito puts UK freelancers at £40–70 an hour, regional freelancers at £35–55 and agencies at £60–150. Upwork’s own figures give a median of $15–30 an hour for web designers on its platform, and $45–75+ for full custom site design.

The hours depend on the work:

  • Custom design. A theme with your branding costs less than a design drawn from scratch. Storetasker’s freelancer figures show the step, from $1,000–2,500 for a basic Shopify set-up to $3,000–6,000 for a custom theme.
  • Page layouts. Pages that share a layout are quick to add. Each page with its own design needs designing, building and testing.
  • Content. Someone has to write the text, choose the photos and enter the product data. If the studio does it, the quote goes up.
  • Shop features. Variants, shipping rules, taxes and payments all take set-up time. Whito’s UK e-commerce range starts at £5,000, where its agency brochure range ends.
  • Integrations. Bookings, memberships and links to stock or accounting systems each need building and testing.
  • Rounds of changes. Open-ended revisions cost hours, and someone pays for them.

Running costs

The build is a one-off cost. After launch you pay for a domain, hosting or a platform plan, and sometimes for paid themes, plugins, apps or fonts. Those bills come from the providers and depend on what you choose.

Care plans usually cover updates, backups and small edits. In September 2026, Whito read 18 UK care plan price lists. The median entry plan was £50 a month, and plans with one hour of changes a month cost £49–170.

WordPress maintenance can cost far more. Codeable, which sells WordPress development, prices its own managed plans at $240, $590 and from $1,000 a month. It notes that budget plans at $30–50 a month exist elsewhere.

How to compare quotes

Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same work. Check these before you compare prices:

  • Scope. Count the pages, layouts and products, and note who writes the text and supplies the photos.
  • Fixed or estimated. A fixed price holds for the written scope. An estimate moves with the hours.
  • Changes. Ask how many rounds are included, what counts as a round and how extras are priced.
  • Ownership. You should own the domain, hosting, code and accounts.
  • The design stage. Ask what happens if the design misses, and whether you can stop at that point.
  • Payments. Check the deposit, the stages and what is due at launch.
  • Monthly costs. Ask for the total after launch, including any care plan you would need.
  • Timeline. Ask what starts the clock and what can pause it.
